Lontanaza

Lontanaza was written for Rohan Dasika and the Canberra International Music Festival in 2017. The piece was performed at National Gallery of Australia in the Jame Turrel Skyspace at sunset for 5 nights. Due to the amount of audience members the piece was performed twice each night from the 1st to the 5th of may.

“Suddenly, the cogs of the cosmos began grinding, a new big bang, the bass exploded into screeching, beautiful, terrible awesomeness! And then the calm of a small high melody told us “it’s okay, everything is okay”.”

– Joel Dolezal for BMA magazine

The piece was written about looking off into the most distant point on the horizon. It explores various extended techniques and preparations on the double bass.
